Horse Heaven Hills AVA FACTS
  • Official AVA status August 1, 2005
  • 570,00 Acres
  • Elevation ranging from 300 ft. to 1800 ft.
  • AVA is approximately 50 miles long by 20 miles deep
  • 9063  Planted Acres / 25% of the grapes planted in the state of  Washington (36,000)
  • Oldest block of vines planted in 1972 by Don and Linda Mercer
  • Cowboy James Kinney named this area in 1857 after discovering his herd of horses eating
    the native grasses on the hillside.  Proclaiming this is "Horse Heaven"
  • Grape varieties grown-Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay,
    Lemberger, Riesling, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Canelli, Orange Muscat, Petit
    Verdot, Chenin Blanc, Grenache, Petit Syrah, Sangiovese, Malbec, Viognier, Zinfandel,
    Barbera, Roussanne, Nebbiolo, Pinot Gris, Carignane, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Pinot Noir,
